THE MID-ATLANTIC SECTION

AMERICAN BRIDGE ASSOCIATION, INC

MAS at New York's Triple A Tourney
Without a doubt, the most exciting bridge tournament is the AAA held in New York during the Presidents' Weekend--four days of bridge.  It's held in New Jersey at a hotel that features a free full breakfast each morning.  Aside from the regular "fares" of the weekend, are free doorprizes and awarding of the winners of the 50-50 raffle--which is sold by almost everyone.  There was a contest among the clubs to see who could see the  most "regular" raffles. Did they sell!  The basket was filled with stubs--more than I have ever seen.
This year the theme was "Motown" and they did it up in grand style.  At the Celebrations Ball, there was dancing "in the streets" and elsewhere.  The nostalgia got us--especially Mervin Jones of PA/DE. He did a Bill Cosby  impersonation. The Players of Different Catergories received their awards in short time. Minnie Goka did her thing. The Memorial Service lasted 25 minutes and we played a total of EIGHT sessions. This was George Hudson's first return to the AAA after being elected the National President of the ABA. I'm sure he will do well--he had so many meetings among members of his team. They will make TAMPA a tournament never to forget.

Let me tell you that the Knockout was won by Hedy Echard, Lee Rucker, Millie Crump, Cynthia Washington and Annette. Cynthia's team beat John's team twice that weekend. Boy, was she happy! I need to see the gamefiles to know how other MAS players did in the competitions. Hedy & Lee also did well in  ALL other games.  We congratulate all of our MAS players--just for being in the number.

Florence Carter made her first appearance at the AAA. Of course the NewJersey, Delaware and Philadelphia crowd know that it IS the tournament to attend.  Many of us MAS players were there.

The directing team was led by Mary Duncan--with Charity Patton and soror Joyce Trammel.  We used the bridgemates for all of the pair games.  They are delightful little gadgets.  Lessens your need for paper goods associated with the tournament.

Way to go New York!  Way to go!!
