Life is but a Stopping Place

Life is but a stopping place,
A pause in what's to be,
A resting place along the road,
to sweet eternity.
We all have different journeys,
Different paths along the way,
We all were meant to learn some things,
but never meant to stay...
Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know.
For some the journey's quicker,
For some the journey's slow.
And when the journey finally ends,
We'll claim a great reward,
And find an everlasting peace,
Together with the lord

THE VIEW FROM MY PEW.....

I'm delighted to remember Joe and Doris Payne.  They were like a dynamic duo--if you saw one, you saw the other.  They played exclusively with each other --unless it was a Men's Pair or a Women's Pair.

Joe was  very active in the politics of the Mid Atlantic Section.  In 1989 he became the Section's  THIRD Vice-President.  He served for two consecutive terms and the section enjoyed financial stability as it grew.

Back in the day, when Dwight & Agnes Galley and George & Anita Hudson lived in New Jersey, we would have theatre weekends where we invited "interesting" people to come have some fun with us.  We'd entertain and feed them for the entire weekend.  Often we went to the theatre on Friday night and Saturday afternoon. When we weren't at the theatre we were in somebody's house eating, drinking wine and sharing  dirty ( some clean) jokes or playing bridge.  Joe loved telling jokes and could go non-stop.  Just give him a topic.  I remember when we went to see Lena Horne's one woman show and spent the entire evening trying to "do" her exercises!  (Remember?)

So long, Joe!  You served us well!
