GONE, BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

Dr. Frances LaJune Powell

October 15, 1936 ---February 14, 2012

Dr. Frances LaJune Powell
I REMEMBER FRANCES...

I don't know what role Frances held in the Washington Bridge Unit, but I remember her as the tournament chair of the Mid Atlantic Bridge Section under Vice President, Jewel Chapman.

Not that I'm prejudice, but a female who was the tournament chair, I thought was profound.  How many other sections let women hold this slot?  I was impressed.  I remember seeing her  move around the playing area without her shoes.  Obviously, he feet  could not adjust to all of that movement.  It was not until I read her obituary that I discovered that she  had been a  PhD history professor.  She was so quiet and unassuming and you never knew about her advanced degrees unless you knew her professionally.  That too, I admire. I have a few friends who needs to let EVERYBODY know about these advanced degrees.  One even told me that it cost her a lot of money.  Frances, you see, was not that way.

Our prayers are with her family and her bridge  partners and teammates.

We were step-sisters.
Of course, I had to tease her a bit about her pink and green which she wore proudly.
